UK government investigation into nicotine vaping results

On September 29, 2022, the UK government published the results of an investigation into nicotine vaping .


The main survey results are as follows:


  1. The risks of nicotine vaping are very low. [1]
    The risk of cancer, respiratory disease, and cardiovascular disease in people who use nicotine vapes is very small compared to cigarettes . No harm from secondhand smoke has been confirmed .

  2. Nicotine vaping users and trends
    In 2021 , there are more than 3 million nicotine vape users in the UK , which means that about 7% of the UK population uses nicotine vapes. Among nicotine vape users, the most popular type is the " tank " type [2]. The popularity of " disposable " types is also rapidly increasing [3]. The most popular nicotine vape flavors are " fruit " and " menthol/mint ".

  3. Nicotine vaping helps you quit smoking
    Nicotine vaping is the most commonly used method for quitting smoking and has been shown to have the highest success rate for quitting smoking [4].

By the way, the UK government has announced a "Swap to Stop" scheme in 2023 (a plan by the UK government to provide smokers with e-cigarettes instead of harmful paper cigarettes).
In the UK, local communities are already providing support for quitting smoking, and nicotine vapes are also being used to help people quit smoking.
Additionally, an increasing number of Americans are quitting smoking cigarettes and turning to e-cigarettes.
